Applied nlp
Ideas are only valuable when they change something.
For more than twenty years I've been interested in one question: What happens when neuro-linguistic programming leaves the training room and enters the real world?
People & Cultures is where I explore those ideas through articles, observations and practical thinking across three areas: Self, Others and Systems.
Occasionally those ideas become something larger.
Personal and professional development often produces insight without enough action. This approach combines practical models from Applied nlp with the structure of Agile working.
The foundation of the process starts by understanding the values involved and how they work. These act as the drivers and motivation for the person developing themselves.
You continue by defining what you want to change, place possible actions and experiments into a personal backlog, and work through them in short, focused sprints. Regular reviews reveal what is working, while retrospectives uncover beliefs, habits and behaviours that may require attention.
Applied nlp provides the models for change; Agile provides the momentum to make that change visible.
The Seven Archetypes
The hospitality industry doesn't simply serve food or provide accommodation. At its best, it creates emotion, memory and a reason to return.
The Seven Archetypes is an applied nlp framework developed specifically for hospitality. It identifies seven distinct behavioural styles that shape how people create experiences—for guests, colleagues and organisations.
Rather than asking people to become someone else, it helps them recognise the strengths they already possess, understand when each behavioural style is most valuable, and intentionally create moments that people remember.
Developed from more than two decades working with boutique hotels, luxury cruise lines and hospitality leaders across Europe and the United States, it is an example of Applied nlp in practice.
Because understanding behaviour is interesting. Applying it changes cultures.
